SCOUT ~ Zollie Newsletter #4
Dearest Zollie Community,
It's hard to believe we are at our last SCOUT newsletter of the year, and it feels like a good one! The amazing thing about color is that the more I learn, the more I want to know and understand. This edition of our newsletter explores how we can draw out color inspiration from small things, like a beam of light, a little patch of mushrooms, or even a single cone in our retinas, into a full experience we can work to be present within. We've spent the last year doing a deep dive into growing the Palette Scout world, developing and launching the Tool Kit, and dreaming up so many more fun products we look forward to launching next year to help bring color exploration to a deeper level for all of us. We can't wait to share it all with you.
SEEING
This article about a new color caught my eye ;) Despite the fact that the average human eye can see about 10 million color variations (with tetrachromats being able to see 100 million), there are still limits to our visual spectrum. I find it very enviable that these scientists have gotten to have their retinas beamed with lasers to see this stunning, never before seen color - Olo. I wonder what other colors are hiding just outside our visual spectrum.
CRAFTING
Whether you're feeling the itch for a casual holiday craft, or gearing up to hand make all of your gifts this year, we published an adorable Cozy Winter Cross Stitch Sampler last winter that you're welcome to brush off and try (it's free!) I loved the palette of Array Wool that we used but would be truly delighted to see other people's chosen palettes for these little projects. Try cross stitching on thrifted napkins, or making mason jar toppers for home made granola for a sweet and simply holiday offering.
OBSERVING
New England had quite the drought this summer, but since fall we have seen an abundance of rain, and that brings the return of mushrooms. Inspired by a work by M. F. Lewis and our lovely fungi friends, I created a little palette. The palette and the idea of foraging for mushrooms then inspired me to take things a step further and play with a "Steal The Look". You could definitely find me in the woods wearing this split complementary palette. Fungi Casual!

UNDERSTANDING
This beautiful look at the worlds most expensive colors in the world gives us a delightful peek at some of the pigments we interact with every day. The world of physical color representation is so much more intricate a process than most people expect!
TRANSFORMING
In the darkest stretches of winter, one thing that brings me consistent joy is having a sun catcher crystal hanging in the window. The low angle of the sun is perfect for these little orbs to catch and transform the rays of light into rainbows that reach far into the house. You can buy them online and use beads to make a string, cardboard and string to make a totem, or even weave a little rainbow tapestry to hang them. No time to make your own? Dopamine Decor has a great selection.
Just For Fun:
What I'm listening to: This time of year we lean into the Medieval Tavern Lo-fi playlists to make the dark evenings feeding the wood stove feel a little more magical. IYKYK.
What I'm making: I'm knitting mittens for my son! I knit these two years ago and he wore them 2 winters in a row. The design was so good, I'm knitting them again.
What's inspiring me: These photographs of silk by Thomas Jackson.
Until next time,
