Beam Organic Cotton: Your New Favorite Cotton Yarn for Knitting and Crochet

Beam Organic Cotton: Your New Favorite Cotton Yarn for Knitting and Crochet

Choosing the right yarn for your knitting and crochet project can make a big difference in how much you love your finished project, and how much fun you have while making it. At Zollie, we’re obsessed with using 100% high-quality yarns from natural fibers in everything we make, so our go-to for knitting and crochet when teaching beginners is our organic cotton yarn, Beam

Beam Organic Cotton Yarn for Knitting and Crocheting

Our sister company Gist Yarn originally designed Beam in 2020 as a staple cotton yarn for weavers, and we later expanded the product line to include 3 different weights. The thickest yarn, our DK weight, is the perfect soft and durable yarn for knitters and crocheters. (And you’ll find the medium weight Beam in our Friendship Bracelet Kit!)

Whether you're an experienced knitter or crocheter looking for new cotton yarn to try, or a newbie wondering where to start, here are four reasons you’re going to love Beam.

1. Beam is soft and durable, specifically designed for your home

Every knitter and crocheter needs a staple cotton they can turn to when they want to make things for their home. We designed Beam with this in mind—think durable dish towels, cozy baby blankets, granny squares, and soft amigurumi toys that you won’t be able to resist squishing.

If you’ve ever poured many hours of your time into making something special only to have it fall apart after a few washings because of low quality yarn, you know how frustrating that can be. When we set out to make a new yarn, quality is the single most important thing to us. We know that your favorite handmade pieces will be washed many times over many years, and we created Beam to stand up well to all that love.

2. Beam is a DK organic cotton that is easily substituted in many patterns

You can use Beam for anything that calls for a DK cotton! This is a popular weight used in many knitting, crochet, and amigurumi patterns. As you build your stash of Beam colors, you can feel confident you’ll have many types of projects to use it with. We suggest knitting Beam with size 7 knitting needles, and crocheting Beam with a 4 mm crochet hook.

3. Beam has more twist than other yarns, meaning you won’t accidentally split the yarn with your hook or needle

New crocheters and knitters often have the frustrating experience of accidentally getting their hook or needle stuck in between the plies of a loosely twisted yarn. That doesn’t happen with Beam! Our twist is a bit tighter, to ensure clear stitch definition, and to make it easy for you to know exactly where to put your crochet hook or knitting needle.

4. Beam is organic cotton, produced with care and attention to every detail

We are deeply proud of how we make Beam yarn, and the care and attention that goes into each and every batch. We start from the source: high quality organic cotton.  Organic farms operate without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, which is better for the earth, and healthier for the people working in the fields and processing the fibers.

The organic fibers are spun into yarn and dyed in small batches. Every batch is carefully checked for color accuracy, and we use the highest quality dyes in order to stand up to repeated washing.

In a world of mass production of craft products, we offer something remarkably different—small batch yarn, made slowly with love and attention going into every step along the way. When you invest your time and effort into knitting or crocheting with Beam Organic Cotton, you're creating a piece that will retain their color and quality for future generations.
